Rotary Club of Beverly Hills Awards $5K to Summer@ETTA

LOS ANGELES — The Rotary Club of Beverly Hills has awarded ETTA a $5,000 grant to support the annual Summer@ETTA program. Summer@ETTA is a unique, experiential social and life skills summer camp for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The day camp fosters independence, inclusion, growth and fun. Campers gain confidence, build self-esteem, and create friendships that last lifetimes.

The Rotary Club of Beverly Hills is a chapter of Rotary International, a humanitarian service organization for professionals. The Beverly Hills Rotary Community Foundation offers grants to local nonprofits whose missions focus on education, humanitarian and human services, hunger relief and homelessness, or assisting people with disabilities. Grant nominations must be sponsored by members.

Sharona R. Nazarian, the president of the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills, proposed this grant to ETTA. “I was delighted to propose ETTA to the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills. We are pleased to support the great work of ETTA, and I am proud of the leadership role of our club.  Every life is valuable and worthy of growth, cultivation and love. We are proud to support humanitarian causes in an effort to assist and guide this valued and innocent population toward independence,” she said.

This past summer, Summer@ETTA provided 100 campers an unforgettable experience, while prioritizing the health and safety of all participants. Programs adapted to meet new Covid-19 safety regulations and ensure all participants could enjoy their summer with friends. ETTA made it possible for all participants to join by Zoom, and some even attended an in-person activity day each week. For those unable to attend in person, counselors provided dynamic Zoom meetings, drive-by activities and home visits. Devoted staff and counselors invested all their energy in infusing the summer with the fun and enthusiasm campers expect and love.

Dr. Michael Held, ETTA Executive Director, said: “This generous grant will help us continue to provide a lively, nurturing, and growth-conducive summer environment for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills for their generosity and for recognizing what Summer@ETTA means to everyone involved, who look forward to it all year.”
